Golden Star Resources was honored with five awards in 2022 Women In Mining and Energy Africa (WIMEA), including Best CSR Contribution in Mining Sector, Excellence in Diversity Programs and Performance Awards, Employer of the Year Championing Diversity and Inclusion, Best Company in Climate Leadership Awards – GSOPP, Gender Diversity Champion – Rebecca Appiah.

The WIMEA AWARDS is an initiative endorsed by the Ghanaian Ministry of Energy and is designed to acknowledge and celebrate the role, contributions and achievements of women in Ghana’s mining and energy industries and ultimately to create awareness on the need for increasing women’s leadership and participation in the mining and energy sector. The Awards also promotes the UN Sustainable Development Goals 5 & 10, to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls; and to reduce inequalities.

The excellent achievements GSR has won in MIWEA proves the company’s consistent commitment to diversity and inclusion with Chifeng Gold, the new owner. GSR will continue to increase female presence, development and leadership in the industry, to impact the lives of women in the catchment areas of Wassa mine.
