LXML Successfully Convened the Geological Exploration Seminar at the Sepon Gold and Copper Mine
From July 22 to 31, 2025, LXML successfully hosted the second Geological Exploration Seminar at the Sepon Mine. This conference brought together top international exploration expertise, featuring distinguished experts in the field, leaders from Chifeng Gold Group, and key members of the Sepon core team. The event charted a clear roadmap for geological prospecting at the Sepon Mine, injecting critical momentum into resource expansion, long-term development, and the journey toward building a world-class mining operation.
Opening Ceremony: Reflecting on Progress and Laying a Professional Foundation
On July 22, the seminar officially commenced with a welcome speech by Jeremy Davidson, General Manager of LXML. Zhao Guanghui, Deputy General Manager of Exploration at LXML, began with a comprehensive review of exploration efforts and achievements since the last seminar in 2020. He highlighted that over the past five years, geological exploration at Sepon has received strong support from senior management, with exploration and resource growth investments increasing year by year. The Exploration Department has adhered to a sound development strategy, steadily expanding its team size and technical capabilities. Notably, the major discovery of the SND deposit in 2024 marked a significant breakthrough, laying a solid foundation for gold and copper resource expansion and the long-term development of the Sepon project.
The seminar invited seven globally renowned experts in exploration, ensuring its professional and forward-looking nature. The distinguished attendees included:
· Dr. Marcus Tomkinson, renowned geologist and former Chief Geologist of MMG
· Professor Zhaoshan Chang, world-leading expert in porphyry/skarn deposits, Colorado School of Mines
· Professor Yaoguo Li, distinguished geophysicist, Colorado School of Mines
· Dr. Paul Cromie, expert in Carlin-type deposits
· Dr. James Cannell, expert in gold and copper exploration
· Gregory Collins, prominent geologist and former Chief Geologist of Eldorado Gold
· Professor Xu Lingang, Professor and Ph.D. Supervisor at China University of Geosciences Beijing.
Chifeng Gold’s leadership, including Chairman Wang Jianhua, Director and CEO Lydia Yang and CFO Mario Wong, attended the seminar’s concluding session. Also present were Gao Bo, Director and Vice President of Chifeng Gold and President of LXML; Jeremy Davidson, General Manager of LXML; and Zhou Xinbing, Vice President of Chifeng Gold and Deputy General Manager of LXML, along with Sepon’s core management team.
Thematic Discussions: In-Depth Analysis to Identify Key Targets
In the second phase, experts were divided into three specialized groups—Gold Exploration, Copper Exploration, and Geophysical Exploration—collaborating closely with the geological exploration team to conduct a meticulous review of vast datasets, including geological, drilling, geochemical, and geophysical data. Through systematic core logging, detailed interpretation of typical geological sections, and comprehensive discussions on mineralization potential, they systematically screened and prioritized prospective targets. After a week of intensive discussions, the seminar identified 40 high-priority exploration targets at Sepon, including 15 oxidized gold targets, 17 primary gold targets, 8 copper targets. Three key exploration directions emerged with particularly high potential.
New Frontiers in Deep Exploration
Professor Yaoguo Li identified deep aeromagnetic anomalies in the TKS target through geophysical data analysis. Professor Zhaoshan Chang corroborated these findings by linking drill core profiles with elemental geochemical signatures, suggesting the anomalies align with hydrothermal activity and proposing deep porphyry copper targets. Dr. Marcus Tomkinson and Dr. James Cannell highlighted the mineralization potential in deep-seated VNG and KKU formations, where tectonic activity and intrusive bodies create favorable conditions. Limited deep drilling results have already provided preliminary validation.
Peripheral Potential: Breakthroughs in the SND Zone
Dr. Marcus Tomkinson, Dr. Paul Cromie, and Gregory Collins emphasized the control of fold and fault structures on mineralization after an in-depth study of the eastern structural framework, identifying significant potential for orogenic gold deposits in the eastern area.
Professor Zhaoshan Chang conducted an in-depth study of the newly discovered SND porphyry project, which has completed its first JORC-compliant Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE), according to which the initial resource is 131.5 million tonnes @ 0.81 g/t AuEq, containing 3.43 million ounces of gold equivalent.
Through meticulous core logging, Professor Chang conducted detailed classification and summarization of the mineralization stages of the project. He pointed out that this deposit is a typical porphyry gold-copper deposit with overprinting intermediate-sulfidation epithermal mineralization. This superimposed mineralization increases gold and copper content without introducing harmful elements. The copper minerals are predominantly chalcopyrite, with no bornite observed yet, leading to the inference that the high-grade core of the orebody remains at greater depths, indicating tremendous potential for resource expansion in the deeper parts of the deposit. Professor Chang further noted that porphyry deposits generally occur in "clusters."
Within the other prospecting targets delineated by the exploration team around the SND deposit, there is a high likelihood of discovering a second or even third porphyry deposit. Witnessing how the Sepon team advanced a greenfield project to pre-feasibility level in just 14 months, with a discovery cost per gold ounce below USD 1—far below the global average—Professor Chang remarked that such highly efficient and low-cost exploration achievements are exceptionally rare in the industry. He believes that Chifeng Gold's exploration of the SND deposit, as a benchmark case in the sector, may set a new global record for gold exploration efficiency.
Closing Session: Charting the Path Forward
From July 30, the seminar entered its two-day conclusion, where Chifeng Gold Chairman Wang Jianhua, accompanied by LXML President Gao Bo, GM Jeremy Davidson, and the Sepon leadership team, listened to the expert presentations.
The experts stated that during the several days of working with the Sepon exploration team, the team demonstrated exceptionally high professional competence and work standards, which was truly impressive; their achievements in improving efficiency and cost control were particularly remarkable. The experts believe that it was precisely the team's highly efficient coordination and strong execution capability that enabled the Sepon Mine to obtain substantial geological results within a short period.
Finally, the expert groups shared their research findings from the investigation of geological data within Sepon's exploration license area. They provided guidance for the exploration team in selecting high-quality targets for future gold and copper exploration, clearly outlining three core exploration directions:
· In the central main mining area's currently known ore bodies, there remain many ore bodies whose boundaries have not been fully delineated. It is necessary to intensify drilling efforts to achieve infill drilling and boundary definition of ore bodies, thereby realizing resource and reserve expansion and upgrading.
· The favorable lithological units in the deep sections of the central main mining area hold tremendous exploration potential. Once breakthroughs are made, they will significantly expand the deep exploration space of the Sepon mine.
· In the peripheral areas of the main mining zone, the expert group delineated two regional exploration targets - the eastern orogenic gold belt is highly valuable due to its higher grades and easier recovery, while the southern magmatic-hydrothermal gold belt has already revealed one mineralized occurrence and extensive geophysical-geochemical anomalies, demonstrating broad exploration prospects.
As the seminar drew to a close, Wang Jianhua expressed sincere gratitude to the expert panel and solemnly pledged to continuously increase exploration investment at Sepon and resolutely implement the experts' recommendations. He emphasized that the Group would provide full resource support to ensure the timely achievement of new drilling targets. He further noted that Sepon Mine would comprehensively advance exploration focusing on "depth, periphery, and margins" - extending deeper to meet current production needs, expanding outward to secure future resources, and thoroughly tapping potential in existing mining areas to maximize resource utilization. Meanwhile, he highly commended the achievements of the Sepon exploration team, encouraging them to maintain focus and enthusiasm, meet challenges with ultimate efficiency and exploratory spirit, live up to the experts' high expectations, and jointly witness the emergence of Sepon's new resource landscape.
The successful conclusion of this seminar not only identified precise exploration targets and technical pathways for the Sepon Gold and Copper mine, but also bridged world-class expertise with Sepon's practical experience, injecting strong momentum for efficient resource development and sustainable growth. This marks a crucial step forward in Sepon Mine's journey to becoming a world-class mining operation.
