Golden Star Wassa Ltd were hosts to the Economic and commercial counsellor of the Chinese embassy in Ghana, Mr. Li Yaohong and his team on Wednesday 23rd November 2022.
As part of the one-day visit, the counsellor and his team paid courtesy calls to traditional authorities in our host communities. They also inspected Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects including our award winning Golden Star Oil Palm Plantation (GSOPP).On the operations, the team interacted with management and workers and toured the processing plant, open pit area as well as the paste backfill plant.
This is the first visit from a representative of the Chinese government in Ghana, since Chifeng Gold acquired Golden Star in January 2022.
Commenting on the visit, counsellor Li said “China is one of Ghana’s major trade partners and the two countries have enjoyed a friendship since 1963 when Ghana became the second country in sub Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic relations with China. The past several decades have witnessed the achievements and progress that the two countries have made, and private sector involvement like the acquisition of Golden Star by Chifeng Gold help to strengthen the bilateral relations between Ghana and China.”
Members of the Golden Star team that received and took counsellor Li and his team around for the visit included Mr. Zhiyong Chen, Chairman Golden Star Wassa, Mr. Tiehe Chen CEO, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Akyaw Senior Manager Processing, Mr. Kofi Bondzie HR Manager, Mr. James German HSEC Manager, as well as other Ghanaian Managers and leaders.
