Golden Star Wassa has supported farmers across the Wassa East, Ahanta West, Mpohor, Twifo Atti-Mokwa, and Tarkwa-Nsuaem districts and municipalities with a donation towards Ghana’s 41st Farmers Day celebration. The presentation ceremony, held on 2nd December at the company’s premises, brought together representatives from the beneficiary districts to receive tricycles, bicycles, Wellington boots, cutlasses, knapsack sprayers, wheelbarrows, and sewing machines for farmers in their communities.
The donation, valued at GH₵400,000, will benefit more than two hundred (200) farmers within Golden Star’s catchment areas and contribute to agricultural productivity.
Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Gerard Boakye, said the donation reflects Golden Star’s continued commitment to supporting farming communities within its catchment. He explained that the company’s focus is to empower districts with the tools and resources that enable farmers to improve productivity. He encouraged the districts to design initiatives and programmes that Golden Star can collaborate on to further advance agriculture. He added: “Our support for Farmers Day is a partnership with our districts and communities. When we work together, agriculture becomes stronger and more resilient.”
Community Affairs and GSOPP Manager, Mr. Peter Addai, highlighted the company’s long-standing relationship with farmers, saying:“Farmers are at the heart of our host communities. This support helps them scale their work, improve yields, and secure better livelihoods. When our farmers thrive, the entire Golden Star community thrives with them.”
This year marks the 13th consecutive time Golden Star is supporting Farmers Day in its host communities.
Over this period, the company has invested more than two million Ghana cedis (GH₵2M) in agricultural development.
Golden Star’s commitment to agriculture is further demonstrated through its ongoing investment in the Golden Star Oil Palm Plantation (GSOPP), which supports more than 500 community youth and farmers in oil palm production. To date, over three million US dollars (USD 3M) has been invested in the scheme.
