LXML Supports Capacity Building of Local Workforce with Successful Apprenticeship Program

18 students recently graduated the LXML apprenticeship program, demonstrating LXML’s ongoing commitment to developing the local workforce. The 18 students were selected from the villages surrounding the Sepon Mine Site, and form part of LXML’s ongoing commitment to providing educational and development opportunities. Additionally, this ongoing commitment also supports the Lao Government’s National Socio-Economic Development Plan.

The students attended the Lao German Technical College in Vientiane, fully funded by LXML. Here they gained foundational skills in electrical, fabrication, mechanical, automotive, auto electrical systems, as well as English language training. The students then continued their studies by working onsite in close collaboration with LXML trainers as well as being mentored by experienced staff in Fixed-Plant and Mobile Maintenance.

The students have now graduated from the apprenticeship program and will become valuable members of the LXML Team. They will work in Fixed-Plant and Mobile Maintenance, joining the surface and underground maintenance teams. Their youthful energy and exuberance will provide a boost to the teams, while their knowledge of the most current and up to date maintenance techniques help keep the maintenance teams running at maximum efficiency.

This is the first cohort of students that have successfully completed the apprentice program. The second cohort of 18 students are in their third year and will graduate in August 2026. The third cohort of 18 students are in their second year of studies and will graduate in August 2027. LXML wishes them well with their studies and eagerly awaits them joining the LXML team.

The apprentice program is an important part of LXML’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities. By providing training and employment opportunities, LXML is upskilling the local community and greatly contributing to the socio-economic development of the local populace. Additionally, by developing a strong local workforce LXML is reducing our reliance on overseas workers and reducing skill gaps within the organization.
