In the 2022 Ghana Mine Performance Awards ceremony held on November 15th in Accra, Golden Star Wassa received three awards -- the first place Best Improved Mine, the second place Best Safe Mine in Safety, Health & Environmental Audit and the third place Best Mine team winning in the Inter-mines First Aid and Safety Competition.
The final of Inter-mines First Aid and Safety Competition as part and climax of the Ghana Mine Performance Awards was held on November 6th. Golden Star Wassa, as the winner of Zone II, took part in the final and won the first in the practical section and the third in the overall contest. Gold Fields Ghana won the championship by a narrow margin.
The Ghana Best Performance Awards is one of the most influential and best known events organized annually by the Ghana Minerals Commission and the Ghana Chamber of Mines. The three awards presented to Gold Star Wassa demonstrate its achievements made in health and safety management after the acquisition by Chifeng and the full recognition by the Ghanaian mining industry, allowing Wassa Mine to maintain its position as one of the top large scale mines in Ghana. The awards also show Golden Star Wassa’s resolution and continuous action to operate a safe and sustainable mine. Golden Star Wassa will keep on with the highest possible standard of its health and safety practice so as to benefit the company, its employees and the host communities.
