Recently, Ghana Environmental Protection Agency and Mincom respectively issued environmental protection and mining licenses for the resumption of open-pit mining in DMH Area to Wassa Gold Mine, and Wassa Gold Mine completed and obtained all necessary legal procedures and licenses for mining in this area.
The DMH Area is located in the southeast of the main mining activity area within the Wassa Mining Lease, and is very close to the concentrator transportation distance. Small-scale open-pit mining was carried out in this area before 2012, and then the operation was stopped due to the fall of gold price. The gold market price provides economic feasibility support for resuming mining in this area.
At present, Wassa Gold Mine has completed communication with nearby communities and has been allowed to enter this area for mining. At the same time, the community investment sustainable development project and safety and environmental protection engineering measures stipulated in the EIA Report have also started in advance, and mining production and transportation equipment have entered the site in succession. According to the plan, the surface stripping and mining work in the first mining area can be officially started around November 10 at the earliest. The supplementary infill geological drilling around the historical mining area has started before, and the drilling is still in progress at present. After completion, the ore body model will be re-delineated to expand and upgrade the resource quantity and increase the reserves.
DMH Area Mining License is an open-pit mining license within the existing mining right lease obtained by Wassa Gold Mine after obtaining the mining license in Benso Area I in July this year. The resumption of open-pit mining in this area is of great significance to the expansion of production and efficiency of Wassa Gold Mine and the improvement of community livelihood. The mining area is close to the concentrator transportation distance and has low cost, which can quickly provide supplementary ore quantity for the concentrator, make full use of the existing concentrator treatment capacity, and provide the foundation and guarantee for the further development of Wassa Gold Mine.
