LXML Received a Letter of Appreciation from the Savannakhet Provincial Government of Laos for Rescuing a Trapped Baby Elephant and Taking Environmental Responsibilities

On February 17, the Savannakhet Provincial Government Office in Laos sent an official letter of thanks to LXML, commending the company for successfully rescuing a baby elephant trapped in a pipeline gap in the Sepon gold-copper mine project and helping it return to its habitat safely. The letter went on to say that the charitable act fully embodies the company's social responsibility and LXML has become a model case in the field of wildlife protection in Laos.

It is reported that after the LXML site team discovered the trapped baby elephant near the project site, they quickly coordinated professional rescue forces and safely removed the pipeline obstacles to ensure that the baby elephant was unharmed. The Savannakhet provincial government emphasized in the letter that this action is an "important contribution to society" and demonstrates the core role of the enterprise as "a responsible leader" in wildlife protection. The letter also cited the 2023 provincial government agreement (No. 905/GN.SVK) and the company report (No. 0145/LXML) to further confirm the normative and scientific nature of the rescue efforts.

As an important mining company in Laos, LXML has long incorporated environmental protection into its company strategy. In addition to this rescue, the company also cooperates with local residents to pay close attention to and monitor and report the activities of wild animals near the mining area.

It is reported that in Laos, elephants are not only an important symbol of the national cultural heritage, but also a key species of the ecosystem. According to Laos’ Wildlife Protection Law, Asian elephants are listed as first-level protected animals and enjoy the highest level of legal protection. This level means anyone who harms, kills or illegally trades elephants will face severe penalties. However, the number of wild elephants in Laos continues to decline due to habitat shrinkage and human interference. According to data from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), there are less than 800 wild elephants in the country, and the conservation situation is grim.

The head of the Ecology Department of Savannakhet Province said: "Elephants have a sacred status in Laotian society and are regarded as 'forest guardians'. This rescue operation by LXML not only saved a life but also awakened the public's attention to endangered species."

This successful rescue effort provides a model for cooperation between Lao enterprises and the government to protect wild animals. The Savannakhet Provincial Government stated that it will deepen cooperation with LXML in the future to reduce threats to wildlife caused by infrastructure.

As stated at the end of the thank-you letter - "May prosperity and well-being always accompany you", the path of harmonious coexistence between man and nature is slowly unfolding on the land of Laos.
