Recently, Ghana Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency respectively issued mining license and environmental assessment license for resumption of production in Area I of Bunso Mining Lease to Golden Star Wassa Mining, agreed to restart open-pit mining work in this area, and approved activities such as drilling and blasting, loading and transportation and open-pit infrastructure maintenance related to mining operations in this area.
Bunso mining lease area is located about 52 kilometers south of Wassa main mining area. In 2013, due to the drop in gold price, the original owner suspended mining operations in this area. According to the current gold price calculation, it is economically feasible to reopen open-pit mining in this area. At present, the road and bridge repair work leading to area I of Bunso is in progress, and it is expected that the open-pit mining operation can be started in August, so as to replenish the mines quantity for Wassa concentrator, make full use of the processing capacity of the concentrator, and realize the mine production increase plan.
Golden Star Wassa has set up a special project team to take charge of HBB area (including Bunso and HB mining lease areas), and fully promote the restart of open-pit mines and the development of new mining areas in these two mining lease areas. HB Mining Rights is located 25 kilometers south of that of Bensuo Mining Rights and is expected to restart production this year. The whole HBB area has a large amount of retained resources and prospecting potential, and there are prospecting areas with good prospecting potential around the mining area, which is expected to open up new areas for subsequent production increase and capacity expansion. Golden Star Wassa plans to build a new concentrator in Bunso area to treat mines in HBB area, and plans to carry out relevant feasibility study in the second half of the year. If it can produce synchronously with the existing concentrator, it will fully exert the production potential of Golden Star Wassa and further increase the gold output.
